Biden nominates Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, DePaul faculty reflect on diversity in law

President Joe Biden will nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, he announced Friday. Jackson, if confirmed, would make history as the first Black woman to serve as a justice.
“I am encouraged by President Biden’s announcement of Ketanji Brown Jackson as a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court. More diversity on the court can only be a good thing, and she’ll provide excellence and perspective,” Jennifer L. Rosato Perea, dean in DePaul’s College of Law, said about the recent nomination.

DePaul President A. Gabriel Esteban hasn’t looked for an apartment since 2007. That’s when he became provost of Seton Hall University, a Catholic institution in New Jersey, and later the president for six years.
But the time has come for Esteban and his wife, Josephine, to search for a new apartment as Esteban’s time as DePaul’s president is coming to an end. At the end of June, Esteban will officially step down from his role after spending five years at the university.
Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx continues to push for special prosecutors, independent panel

Former DePaul professor who sued university regarding tenure files for summary judgment

Lisa Calvente, former DePaul communications professor who sued the university regarding her tenure denial, filed for partial summary judgment on Dec. 23.
Calvente’s motion comes after DePaul filed for summary judgment on all claims raised by Calvente. The university filed on Nov. 19.
